Martin Scorsese’s lavish 3D adventure Hugo has received the most nominations for this year’s Academy Awards, announced in a pre-dawn ceremony in Beverley Hills today. Set in a Paris railway station in 1931, Hugo picked up 11 nominations including Best Picture and Best Director.

Brad Pitt has been nominated for Best Actor Oscar for his role as baseball club manager Billy Beane in Moneyball, which also received Best Picture nomination.

Viola Davis made it into the Best Actress shortlist for her role as the sweet-natured maid Aibileen Clark in civil rights drama The Help, which was also nominated for Best Picture.

Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, starring Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams, is one of the nine films nominated for Best Picture.
